Shambhala is a character driven journey, through the eyes and experiences of one woman. It follows Christine de Fresne, an Australian artist and photographer on a solo back packing journey through the mountains and deserts of central Asia, inspired by a reference she read about sacred places where heaven and earth meet.
Starting in north west China, she traveled to Mongolia, Siberia, Kazakstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgystan, Northern Pakistan, ending her journey five months later in northern India during the riotous Ganesh (elephant headed god) festival.
Shambhala also takes a glimpse into the lives, culture, arts and environs of the people who live in these places, whose lives are as yet largely untouched by tourism but whose warm, open and welcoming nature enabled Christine to make such a journey.
